VIDEO: Why voting matters – residents share their views

We spoke to locals, including first-time voters, during the voter registration weekend to hear their views on the importance of registering and participating in elections. Watch the video below to hear their messages.

As part of our coverage of the voter registration weekend, we visited several voting stations, including Wit Deep Primary School in Boksburg, where residents had the opportunity to register to vote or verify their details on the voters’ roll.

Although turnout was relatively slow during our visit on Saturday, those who made their way to the voting station emphasised the importance of participating in the democratic process. Among them were first-time voters registering for the very first time, as well as residents checking that their voting details were up to date.

In this video, community members share why they believe registering and voting is important, while encouraging others to make use of the registration weekend. Activities continue today (Sunday) until 5pm, giving eligible voters one last opportunity to register or verify their details.

Registration stations are open from 8:00 to 17:00 throughout the weekend, allowing eligible voters to ensure they are ready to participate in future elections.

Watch the video below to hear directly from local residents:

If you haven't yet registered or checked your voting details, there is still time. Registration stations remain open until 17:00 today.
