Billy ‘The Kid’ Oosthuizen from Beyers Park has his eye on becoming an EFC featherweight champion.

This comes after the 30-year-old defeated Rian ‘The Mountain Lion’ Dunn via TKO (strikes) 02:24 into the first round in the recent EFC 118 featherweight bout at the Performance Institute.

Following the fight, Oosthuizen said that he was pleased with his performance.

“It was not a difficult fight and I would like to fight a champion that can challenge me,” said Oosthuizen, whose record is 8-6-0.

Oosthuizen said all he wanted now was to bring back home the belt.

About Oosthuizen’s fight, his coach, Ferdinand Basson, said he could not have asked for a better performance from Oosthuizen.

When and why did you start training in martial arts?
I started boxing as a child because most of my family members were boxers; so it was a tradition for us.

How did you transition into MMA?
I transitioned to MMA because I didn’t want to follow in the shadows of my family, as some of them are well-known boxers.

What achievement stands out for you?
I have a pro license in Muay Thai and MMA, which is awesome for me to have both.

How did you get your fight name?
When I started at Junkyard MMA, which has changed to Godfather MMA, I was the youngest and smallest, so everyone used to call me ‘the kid’.

What is your favourite technique, and why?
My favourite technique is the overhand right. It is my signature move, and with it, I had a few knockouts.

Who is your hero?
My dad is my hero because he always pushed me to be better and supported me in whatever I wanted to do, helping me to take it to the next level.

What does it mean for you to fight in the EFC?
EFC is the biggest promotion in Africa, and it means a lot to me. It is everything right now for taking my career to the next level.
