‘Feralspunky’ not disheartened by defeat
Mkhwanazi is already back in training for his next fight.
Parkrand’s EFC fighter Godfrey ‘Feralspunky’ Mkhwanazi remains determined to become an EFC champion despite his loss to Ash Zola at the recent EFC 121.
Zola defeated Mkhwanazi via rear-naked choke in the second round at the WSB EFC Arena in a bantamweight bout.
Mkhwanazi expressed disappointment over the result, noting that while the performance was solid, a few factors on the day contributed to the defeat.
“A few errors and conditions made it challenging, but lessons were learnt. It was extremely hot, and the lights added to the difficulty. My body burnt out in the second round due to heat exhaustion. However, before that, we were doing well on the stand-up, winning all exchanges. Ash was also the heaviest opponent I’ve ever faced, even in my amateur career, which threw off my game plan.”
Feralspunky remains optimistic about his performance.
“Everything else was close to perfect, and that’s in the words of my coach. I’m not disheartened at all because, while it lasted, the performance was world-class,” he said.
Looking ahead, Mkhwanazi is grateful for his minimal injury and is already back in training.
“I’m now focusing on improving my cage footwork and explosive power to address the gaps from that fight. I don’t know when my next fight will be, but I’m taking it one day at a time.
“I plan to compete in winter from now on, as those conditions suit my fighting style and body better. Summer fights are more taxing on my style and physique. I expect my next fight to be anytime between June and October, but I’m healthy, strong, and ready to fight whenever my coaches say.”
Mkhwanazi also acknowledged the unwavering support from his team and extended his gratitude to Canna Manor for their role in his recovery from an injury.
