Karateka impress sensei

They collected five gold, six silvers and four bronze.

Lotus Karate Club instructor sensei Raveen Dayaram shared his pride after his students collected a total of 15 medals during the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA) national championships at Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on September 20.

Dayaram sent a team of 17 karateka and they collected five gold, six silvers and four bronze medals to cap off a good championship for the Parkrand-based club.

“Thanks all my students for all the hard work and effort they have put into this tournament. It was a lot of work from everyone. I am is extremely proud of them. They were brave to go out there and do what they did,” Dayaram said.

To those who didn’t place, the sensei said they were winners by showing up and competing.

“It takes guts, determination and courage to go out there and compete. The medals are a bonus. It is always very nice to win medals but even if we don’t win a medal, we win by competing and learning to better ourselves.”
