Dayanglen resident a star on the cricket pitch

Ethan made the U12A squad to represent Eastern Gauteng in the Little League Inter Provincial Tournament from June 28 to July 2 at the Fourways Action Sports Arena.

Ethan James Jackson from Dayanglen has excelled on the cricket pitch.

His love for cricket started when he was three years old at his nursery school, where he had cricket lessons once a week.

This passion grew over the years after playing outdoor cricket for the schools he attended.

In January 2023, he started attending coaching sessions at the Boksburg ISE indoor cricket arena.

“At one of the coaching sessions, the coach started talking to them about the Easterns trials for the children to have an opportunity to play for Eastern Gauteng in a tournament that was to take place in March 2024.

“Ethan got into the car and told me he is going to make the Eastern Gauteng team,” said his mother, Melissa Green.

Melissa said Ethan then trained as hard as he could for the Eastern’s trials in October last year.

The teams were announced at the beginning of November 2023, and Ethan made the U12A squad for Eastern Gauteng indoor cricket.

The squad trained extensively from last November until March, when the national provincial tournament took place from March 24 to 31.

“Ethan’s team did well. They came second on plate after playing two round-robin games and came sixth out of 12 teams that entered,” said Melissa.

On May 6, Ethan was awarded his co-curricular colours at Ashton International College for making the Eastern Gauteng indoor cricket team.

Furthermore, Ethan attended trials in April for the Little League Inter Provincial Tournament for Edenvale Action Sports arena.

He made the U12A squad to represent Eastern Gauteng in the Little League Inter Provincial Tournament from June 28 to July 2 at the Fourways Action Sports Arena.

Melissa said Ethan and his team did exceptionally well and received bronze for coming third out of the 14 teams entered from across the country.

“We are proud of Ethan. He was determined to make both Eastern Gauteng squads, and his determination and love for the game made that a reality,” she said.

Ethan will play for Ashton International’s outdoor cricket team for a second season until the next Eastern Gauteng indoor cricket trials take place in September 2024.
“We know Ethan will work hard to make the team again this year,” said Melissa.
