Small group gathers for March and March demonstration in Brakpan North
More participants are expected to join the demonstration as the procession gets under way along Voortrekker Road.
A small group of people gathered near the Sherwood Shopping Centre in Brakpan North this morning to participate in the national March for March demonstrations.
A Brakpan Herald journalist at the scene reported earlier that about 20 people had assembled.
At around 08:30, participants were preparing to begin the march. They were singing as they gathered, while the surrounding streets remained quiet.
Security company personnel were patrolling the area, alongside members of the SAPS, the EMPD and other private security companies.

Drummond Doig of AfriForum, who was accompanying the procession, said he was not aware of any other protest hotspots in Brakpan at the time.
Participants told the Herald they were marching to raise awareness about several issues, including undocumented migrants, businesses that employ them, drug-related concerns, and crime.
The local march organiser confirmed the demonstration formed part of the national shutdown.
Marchers said they expected more people to join the procession as it moved along its route.
They intend to proceed along Voortrekker Road, stopping at designated points along the way.
