Brakpan SAPS and local CPF members joined a prayer session at the N17 Dalpark Toll Plaza on September 13 hosted by the Independent Order of True Templars (IOTT) church.

SAPS social crime prevention and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi was supported by Brakpan CPF interim chairperson Simon Mabuse.

About 100 church members from various branches gathered for a candlelight prayer vigil to request divine protection on the roads and safety within the community.

“SAPS partners with faith-based organisations to fight crime by addressing moral decay, changing individual mindsets, providing healing and support, and offering spiritual and moral backing to police officers,” said Buthelezi.

“This initiative aligns with the national crime prevention strategy, focusing specifically on public values, education, and social crime prevention frameworks.”

The congregants sang, praised and prayed, while chaplains and pastors provided short sermons.

“Church members held placards with messages praying for community safety and saying no to drugs and alcohol,” added Buthelezi.

“Motorists passing through the toll plaza hooted and waved at the church members to show support for the initiative.”

The SAPS and CPF ensured the safety of church members until everyone dispersed without incident. The church leaders thanked law enforcement for their support and visibility.
