Let the games begin

Metro Police officers from all over the country converged on the Charl Baard Stadium, in Brakpan, on Sunday, for the opening ceremony of the National Inter-Metro Police Games 2014.

The games, which are hosted by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, will see participants participate in nine different sporting codes, namely soccer, netball, golf, running, cycling, volleyball, shooting, darts and pool.

The participating teams are the EMPD, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Johannesburg Metro Police Department and the Durban Metro Police Department.

During the opening ceremony, EMPD acting chief of police Johan Friedlander welcomed all the guests and participants, and acknowledged the councillors, management and VIPS in attendance.

The MMC for Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, emphasized the importance of crime prevention to create a safe environment for Ekurhuleni citizens, as well as visitors and those passing through the city.

The games will be held at venues throughout Ekurhuleni and the awards evening are scheduled to take place on Thursday night, September 25, in Kempton Park.
