Education department comments on Brakpan High sex-for-marks scandal

The Gauteng Education Department has confirmed that an investigation against two educators accused of impregnating two learners at Brakpan High School, was conducted.

According to department spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane, both educators are no longer in the employ of the department.

One teacher was sanctioned to two months suspension without pay and has found employment elsewhere, while the other resigned during the course of the investigation.

“The School Governing Body was disbanded and the district is responsible for the governance functions of the school, and the process of electing a new governing body is underway,” said Sekhonyane.

“The school will remain under the administration of the district for the time being.”
