Government to host consumer awareness imbizo on World Consumer Rights Day

The National Consumer Commission, in partnership with the National Credit Regulator, will host a consumer awareness imbizo in KwaThema tomorrow (Sunday), to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day.

World Consumer Rights Day was first celebrated on this day in 1983, and has since become a vehicle for consumer rights organisations around the world to mobilise the global community to know, take ownership and demand their rights as key role players in economies.

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Mzwandile Masina will be the keynote speaker at the event which takes place against the backdrop of Human Rights month, under the theme “Consumer Rights are Human Rights.”

South Africa, through the Consumer Protection Act, recognises eight fundamental consumer rights, consistent with its constitution and the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Rights.

The event will take place at 10am in the KwaThema Community Hall, which is situated along the corner Moshoeshoe and Nkosi Streets, KwaThema, Springs.
