Eastern Gauteng kickboxers return with medals
The South African Kickboxing Association (SAKA) recently hosted the National South Africa Kickboxing Championships, in Cape Town, where over 50 participants and coaches represented Eastern Gauteng.
Shihan Raymond Phillips, chairman of Eastern Gauteng Kickboxing, said that the South African Championships were one of the biggest kickboxing events he has attended in a number of years.
Eastern Gauteng did exceptionally well and brought home many SA titles.
“We, as a province, are extremely proud of each and every one who took part,” Phillips said.
Phillips took seven of his own students from the Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies (XKT) Brakpan branch to the championships.
They returned with four gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
Sensei Ryan Phillips, son of Raymond, claimed three gold medals in Cape Town for Eastern Gauteng, while sensei Matthew Dalton won a gold and a bronze medal, Zarius Dekker won gold and bronze, Frans de Bruyn took silver and bronze, Leander van Biljon silver and bronze and Kevin Maree silver.
“We are now waiting for the names of the national team members, who will tour Ireland and Serbia at the Wako World Championships,” added Phillips.
