Locals take part in annual Worldwide Aquathon

Regular clients of all ages did not hesitate to spend three hours in the water and fun was had by all.

There was a lot of splashing and fun when 73 countries recently took part in the annual Worldwide Aquathon.

The event was held at 174 different venues all over the world, including Brakpan.

A large group of water lovers participated in this event, at Aqua Water Aerobics, in Dalview.

During this worldwide project, participants have to complete three hours of aqua aerobics on the same day.

“This event is part of spreading the word and experiencing the properties of water,” explained Arauna Bezuidenhout, owner of Bezt Health Wellness and Fitness, where the Aqua Water Aerobics takes place.

“Water can be therapeutic in so many ways and is the best medium in which to exercise.

“The water works gently with the body, but can be a hard and challenging workout if you work harder.

“The properties of the water-like resistance can be used to determine how hard you want to work.”

Bezuidenhout, Bets Coleman and Tracy Callester, who are registered and qualified with the South African Water Fitness Association, were the instructors on the day.

Regular clients of all ages did not hesitate to spend three hours in the water and fun was had by all.

The next Worldwide Aquathon will be held on November 12, next year, and the Brakpan group has already noted this on their calendars.
