Man sleeping in car awakened by hijacker

The man had gone drinking with a friend at a local tavern.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the long weekend:

• Friday – Six burglaries were reported.

These took place at addresses along Middle Street, in Sunair Park, Willem van Zyl Avenue, in Minnebron, Leary Place, in Brakpan North, Namaqua Avenue, in Leachville, Hamilton Avenue and Kitzinger Avenue.

Cash, television sets, laptops and other household items were stolen.

A white Hyundai H100 was stolen from Airport Drive.

Two truck batteries were stolen from a business situated along Denne Road, in Vulcania.

A company along Hastings Avenue was robbed of wheels from a trailer and a forklift battery.

A case of hijacking was opened after a sleeping man was pulled from his car, assaulted and robbed of the vehicle.

The man had gone drinking with a friend at a local tavern and, after leaving the establishment, decided to sleep in the car – a blue Opel Astra.

The vehicle was parked at the corner of Kingsway Avenue and High Street.

He was awakened at about 4am, when he was pulled from the car and assaulted.

His car was stolen.

• Saturday – A television set and laptop were stolen during a burglary at a home along Slangberg Street, Leachville.

• Sunday – No information was received.

• Monday – Thieves stole the battery from a Hyundai H100.

The vehicle was parked at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Wanderers Street.

A body was found at the Brakpan Dam.
