Goods confiscated for by-laws contravention during EMPD operation in Brakpan
Six illegally erected structures near Makro Carnival were also demolished.
EMPD By-Law Compliance Unit officers conducted a by-laws clean-up operation in the Brakpan CBD and surrounding areas on October 14.
The operation was targeted at shops displaying their goods on the sidewalk, making it difficult for pedestrians to walk, and hawkers selling goods illegally on the side of the road.
Streets such as Voortrekker, Bedford, Kitzinger and High were visited where mannequins used for displaying clothes, brooms, mops, rakes, headboards, microwaves, refrigerators, and a minibus car seat, were confiscated for being displayed on the sidewalk.
Coldrinks, sweets and atchar were confiscated from an unregistered hawker, who was selling goods on the traffic island along Airport Drive near Mall@Carnival.
Six illegally erected structures/shacks were also demolished near Makro Carnival.
The EMPD stated its By-law Compliance Unit will ensure compliance and enforcement of municipal by-laws among all non-compliant individuals.
