Political parties to sign electoral code of conduct pledge

Committing to free and fair elections.

With local government elections fast approaching, about 24 political parties and 16 independent candidates contesting for Ekurhuleni council seats will today (Thursday) sign a code of conduct to commit to free and fair elections.

The electoral code of conduct issued in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Electoral Act 27 of 2000 is binding to all political parties, leaders, office bearers, candidates and supporters.

The code also places an obligation upon leaders of political parties to encourage their members and supporters to comply with the code.

The signing will take place in Germiston.
