Location Road squatters forced to move

Shacks dismantled and the people told to leave.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has taken action against the community of squatters living near Location  Road and has forced them to move from the land.

Representatives from the municipality met with the community leaders at the settlement this morning (Friday) and told them to collect their belongings and leave the area.

Traffic wardens and other members from the EMPD then started to dismantle the shacks and other structures.

Many of those living in the settlement admitted to having somewhere else to live and said they had moved to the area in order to earn a living through plastic recycling.

While the mood was tense at times, the process was peaceful.
