Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Three cars were stolen.

A blue Volkswagen Microbus was stolen from the corner of Hyland Street and Voortrekker Road, a silver Opel Corsa was stolen from Goods Road, and a brown Datsun Stanza was stolen from Reitz Street, in Dalview.

* A Brenthurst pensioner (81) was robbed in her home.

* A would-be robber was arrested after he attempted to rob a man at the corner of High Street and Kitzinger Road.

The man was walking to the taxi rank at around 8pm when the robber confronted him at gunpoint and demanded his belongings.

The robber was forced to abandon his plans, however, when a police car turned into the road.

He fled on foot, but the officers gave chase and he was apprehended.

* Two breaks-ins took place.

A home along Grobler Street, in Brenthurt, was burgled of cellphones, tablets, laptops and a games console, while a TV, iPad and laptops were stolen from a residence in Cadillac Street, Kenleaf.

* Tyres and mags were stolen from a car parked along Tweedy Road, in Brenthurst.

• Saturday – Cash and cigarettes were stolen during a robbery at a café along Prince George Avenue.

Four men entered the shop at around midday and threatened the cashier with a gun.

* A car parked at an address along Van der Merwe Street, in Brenthurst, was broken into and the radio stolen.

The vehicle’s wheels and tyres were also stolen.

* A Toyota Hilux (model not provided) was stolen from the corner of Short Road and Colliery Street, in Dalview.

• Sunday – Staff at a shop in Voortrekker Road were held at gunpoint by three robbers at about 10.20am.

The trio made off with numerous cellphones and cash from the till.

* A white Volkswagen Polo was stolen from an address along Bentley Place, in Kenleaf.

Other cases reported:

• Thursday – The driver of a white Ford Fiesta was hijacked at about 8.30pm, in Dalpark Extension Six.

The victim was waiting for a friend at an address along Torchwood Street, when a silver Opel Corsa drove up and suddenly stopped.

Two armed men alighted the vehicle and approached the victim’s car.

He was forced into the back of his Fiesta and the hijackers climbed in and drove off.

After driving for about 40 minutes, the victim was put into another car.

He was then searched and robbed of his bank cards.

The hijackers drove around with the victim for about four hours before letting him go in Alberton.

• Theft of motor vehicle: 1
• Theft: 2
• Possession of hijacked trailer: 3
• Attempted robbery with firearm: 1
• Drunk driving: 5
