Underage driver sentenced in Malcolm Booysen case
The underaged driver who hit and killed Malcolm Booysen has been sentenced.
The underage boy who hit Malcolm Booysen (14) while driving a vehicle, causing his death, has been sentenced to three years’ compulsory stay in a youth care centre for manslaughter and driving without a licence.
The boy was 12 at the time of the incident, which took place on June 7, 2025, at the corner of Northdene Avenue and Madeley Street.
He may not be named as he is a minor.
Though Booysen’s mother, Helen-Ann Pelser, says she has forgiven the child for her son’s death, she feels the sentencing is too light for the loss of her son.
“He only got three years because it’s his first offence and he’s still underage. Where is the justice in it for my boy that I’ll never see again? I’m going to take further legal action,” Pelser said.
