The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (May 8 to 9):

Cases reported:

• Theft from motor vehicle: 1
• Fraud: 1
• Malicious damage to property: 1
• Tampering with infrastructure: 1
• Drunk driving: 1
• Murder: 1
• Dealing in dagga: 1
• Theft: 3
• Business burglary: 1

Arrests:

• Housebreaking and theft: 1
• Dealing in drugs: 1
• Assault GBH: 1
• Drunk driving: 1
• Theft: 2

Murder:

• A man died after being assaulted during a mob justice attack in the Plastic City informal settlement on Monday.

Two men – accused by community members of committing murder – were attacked by a crowd earlier that morning.

Police placed the pair under arrest on suspicion of murder and they were taken to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical attention.

One of the men succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.

Burglary:

• Goods Road (business).

The break-in took place on Monday.

Stolen: Basin taps, electricial switches and other fittings.

Theft out of motor vehicle:

• A car parked at an address along Shepstone Street in Brenthurst was broken into on Monday.

A DVD player, speakers, school bag, pair of sunglasses and other valuables were stolen.
