Brakpanites’ admin made it into the spotlight

Get to know the Brenthurst resident, Ana Cardosa.

Ana Cardosa (43) is one of the admins on the ‘Brakpanites’ Facebook group. Ana is mom to Micaela (22) and Carlos (13) and is engaged to her soulmate Johan. The Brenthurst resident is passionate about people and animals.

What is your occupation?

I’m a travel consultant by trade, but life has made me the Jill of all trades, but master of none.

• What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

A few lessons but my top two are the more you give, the more you receive and never, ever forget where you come from. Family is the most important thing one can have.

• Who is your role model and why?

I have a few, but on choosing one, I’ll have to say, my late mother.

She was a woman of formidable strength that never allowed her circumstances to get the better of her.

• How would you describe yourself?

Very difficult to describe myself as I don’t do labels, but I like to think of myself as a liquorice-all-sort, very colourful, passionate, jovial and crazy.

• If you had the power to solve one and only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?

Greed! If one removes greed all the other problems will slowly but surely solve themselves.

• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

Johan says sleeping can’t be considered a hobby, so I’d have to say that I enjoy nature, learning about new cultures, reading, people watching and socialising.

Something few people know about me is that I play a mean game of paintball and I can’t swim.

• What is your favourite thing about Brakpan?

It has to be the people, I have previously lived in other towns but Brakpan stole my heart.

The community is like a family where people still greet when they see you, you’re not just another face in the crowd.

• What do you see as the greatest strength of this community?

We have so many caring and passionate people that stand together.

• What is your greatest concern for this community? What do you see as its greatest needs?

We have far too much poverty and our elders have a hard time trying to survive.

We need to give more and make a point in maybe adopting an elder, they are wise in years and can still teach us a lot.
