Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A man was robbed of a large sum of cash at the corner of Voortrekker Road and High Street.

The victim, who had withdrawn wages for his staff earlier that morning, was waiting for a business associate at around 3.30pm when he was robbed by three men.

* An amplifier, two speakers and a DVD player were stolen from a home along Station Road.

* A jewellery shop in the Mall@Carnival was robbed by two men.

The pair entered the shop at around 7pm and enquired about some of the items on display.

While talking to the sales assistant, one of the men opened the bag he was carrying and revealed a gun.

He instructed the woman to empty the shop’s safe.

The robbers searched the staff, robbing some of them of their personal belongings, and fled.

• Saturday – A company situated along Ergo Road in Maryvlei was broken into and robbed of cash.

* Two residential burglaries took place.

A computer, kettle and cellphone were stolen from a home along Buxton Avenue in Dalview, while a braai grill and other valuables were stolen from an address along Kitzinger Avenue.

* A woman was robbed of her handbag along Voortrekker Road.

The victim was approached by three women as she exited a shop at about 2.15pm.

One of the women suddenly grabbed her bag and the trio ran to a white Toyota Camry, climbed in and sped off.

* A white Nissan 1400 bakkie was stolen from Carnival City.

• Sunday – A laptop was stolen from a company along 12th Road in Vulcania.

* A home in Lapping Street, Brenthurst, was burgled of a gaming console, DVDs, a camera, personal documents and other household items.

* Police were called to the scene of a shooting in Withok Estates.

The male victim and some friends had parked along Heidelberg Road and slept in their car overnight.

A lone gunman approached their vehicle at around 6am and fired a shot at the car.

He took a cellphone from the victim and fled in an unknown vehicle.

The victim was taken to the Pholosong Hospital in Tsakane.

Cases of attempted murder and armed robbery are under investigation.

Other cases:

• Thursday – A white Nissan NP200 bakkie was stolen from Escombe Avenue.

* A company in Denne Road, Vulcania, was broken into.

One suspect was discovered on the property and arrested.

He was found in possession of goods belonging to the business.

* A car parked at an address along Scott Street in Brenthurst was stripped of its wheels.

Other valuables inside the car were also stolen.

* Two jackets and a radio were stolen from a vehicle in Lotus Avenue, Kenleaf.

• Reckless driving: 1
• Possession of drugs: 4
• Arson: 2
• Drunk driving: 3
• Speeding: 14
• Theft: 2
• Assault GBH: 1
• Common assault: 1
