In the spotlight: Get to know Lavonia Goliath

Lavonia Goliath is our spotlight person this week.

Lavonia Goliath is the secretary to Brakpan Police Station commander Brig Fredl Jonck. The Dalpark resident is married to Mark (37) and has three children, Jezminn (12) and twins Allyssa and Allessia (eight months).

For how long have you worked at Brakpan SAPS?

Since January 2013.

I have been a secretary since my appointment with the South African Police Service in September 2007.

I worked at the provincial office in the Eastern Cape and was transferred to Brakpan SAPS.

I have been the secretary to the station commander at Brakpan SAPS since January 2013.

Describe a typical day at the office? What does your job entail?

Attending to complainants, telephone enquiries, checking daily emails, assisting everyone I can to the best of my abilities and of course, the station commander is my main responsibility.

What do you like most about your job?

I love assisting people.

What makes me happiest is when I assist someone and they leave with a smile.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I love cooking and trying new recipes.

My husband often fights with me because I can never remember what ingredients I used when he liked a dish.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Whatever life throws at you, never back down.

Just use it as a stepping stone to get where you want to be.

If you had the power to solve one and only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?

Hatred, if there is no hatred that consumes the world, people can only love and show care to one another.

If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be and why?

I don’t really care about possessions, but I would have to choose my “punshu punshu” (car) as it is the closest thing to home and was bought for me by my father.

Who or what inspires you?

My parents.

What makes you laugh?

My husband.

Name one thing about yourself that most people don’t know.

I absolutely love the thrill of speed and a car spinning (with me in it, of course).
