Combat sport is alive and kicking
Close to 400 fighters from around the province gathered at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on August 25 for one of the largest amateur kickboxing events in South Africa.
The Great North 2 event, hosted by Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies (XKT) president and Brakpan resident shihan Raymond ‘The Whip’ Phillips, continues to be a highlight on the combat sport calendar and Saturday again proved that there is a great hunger and desire to participate in the sport of kickboxing in Gauteng and in South Africa at large.

High-quality kickboxing was displayed in the styles of semi-contact, light contact, full contact, K1 and forms.
This year’s event was again sanctioned by the South African Kickboxing Association (SAKA) and the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO).

“Thank you to all the fighters who competed,” said Phillips.
“Thanks to the referees, judges, table officials, coaches and family members who made Great North 2 a massive success.
“Running big events does have its challenges but without the SAKA/WAKO kickboxing family it would not have been possible.”
