Illegal mining equipment seized

EMPD Equestrian Unit in pursuit of illegal miners.

The EMPD Equestrian Unit seized illegal mining equipment during a special operation in Brakpan North last week.

The unit descended into an area of veld near Hospital Road on Wednesday in pursuit of illegal miners.

Although the illegal miners disappeared into the shafts, their equipment was seized and the structures in which they work were demolished.

The special operation started at 8am and concluded around 11am.

The operation yielded two water pumps, five spades, three picks, a container, a plastic pipe and other goods.

All the confiscated items were booked in under ‘found property’ at the Brakpan Police Station.
