Recovery is something to celebrate

October was National Mental Health Awareness Month.

A Mental Health and Substance Abuse Recovery Celebration Day was held at the Life Esidimeni Witpoort Care Centre in Vulcania on Wednesday, last week.

October was National Mental Health Awareness Month and the event aimed to raise awareness of mental disorders and substance abuse.

It was also aimed at celebrating those who have recovered.

Stakeholders included the SAPS, EMPD, emergency services, the Gauteng Department of Health, the Gauteng Department of Social Development, community support groups, family members and patients.

Displaying some of the art and other creations made by patients at the Life Esidimeni Waverley Care Centre in Germiston are staff members (from left): Lindile Hlanganyane (unit manager), Ravi Saimen (physiotherapist), Ian Tsebe (pharmacy manager), Ashleigh Louw (occupational therapist), Nonkazimlo Mpumela (unit manager), Sandra McCallum (hospital manager), Mandisa Giyose (social worker) and Richard Chapman (maintenance supervisor). The items are made by patients as part of their therapy.
The Daveyton Senior Citizens Choir entertained the audience during the event.
