No serious injuries were reported and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the tills.

A police officer was robbed of her service pistol during a robbery at Jansens Meat Market on Monday afternoon.

Four robbers, one of whom was armed with a gun, entered the local butchery around 2.30pm and threatened staff and customers.

Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, told the Herald one of the robbers spotted the police officer and forcefully took her firearm.

“A struggle ensued and a shot went off, which ricocheted towards another shopper,” she said.

“No serious injuries were reported and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the tills.”

The robbers made their escape in a white Chevrolet Spark and fled in the direction of Mall@Carnival.

No arrests have been made.
