Weekend crime round-up
The young man sustained two bullet wounds – one to his knee and another to the abdomen.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:
• Friday – A 22-year-old man was shot in an attempted hijacking along Sterkbos Street in Dalpark.
The victim was injured as he went to the aid of his mother and 17-year-old sister who were ambushed by a gang of men as they arrived home at 8.14pm.
The men attempted to steal the woman’s white Golf Volkswagen GTI.
After she pulled into the driveway and pressed the remote to close the gate, the woman noticed a vehicle blocking the gate and a man running towards her.
He was shouting at her to open the doors and started banging on the car window.
The woman started hooting the horn on her vehicle and then heard a gunshot.
She saw her son running out of the house towards the car.
Several more gunshots went off and the woman’s husband also came out of the house.
The woman got out of the car to check on her son and saw bullet casings scattered throughout the yard and garage.
The couple pushed the panic button alerting their security provider.

He was taken via ambulance to the Netcare Sunward Park Hospital in Boksburg.
The would-be hijackers were seen by the family’s neighbour trying to get into the Golf and trying to open its boot.
It is believed five men were involved and a case of attempted murder was opened.

* Three break-ins took place.
Homes in Stoffberg Avenue, Silverbush Crescent in Dalpark and Tinker Road in Brenthurst were burgled of various valuables including laptops, clothes and cellphones.
• Saturday – A 38-year-old man was fatally stabbed during an alleged altercation with his girlfriend.
Police were called to an address along Victoria Avenue at 11.30pm and found the victim with a single stab wound to the chest.
He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics and the body was taken to the Springs government mortuary.
Police seized a blood-stained table knife and a woman was arrested.
* A Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from a business in Station Road.
A radio was stolen from another vehicle on the premises, while the ignition of another had been tampered with.
Tools were taken from other vehicles.
• Sunday – A purple Volkswagen Golf was stolen from an address along Escombe Avenue.
