Auditions open for Ekurhuleni Poetry Slam

The poetry categories and adjudication will be based on narrative poem, lyrical poem and dramatic poem and no one under the age of 16 will be allowed to participate.

The City of Ekurhuleni will host a poetry slam at the Dumisani Masilela Theatre in Germiston on December 4.

This is a form of performance poetry to support and improve the literacy levels of participants.

Slam poetry is an important form of language the youth can use to describe their thoughts and feelings about anything, and it is also a gateway to the world of literature.

It inspires the audience to pen and voice their thoughts with skill, which usually implies they must read, while it is also fun.

The final event will be preceded by auditions which will be held as follows:
• November 24: Germiston Library from 10am to 3pm
• November 25: Thembisa Library from 10am to 3pm
• November 26: Daveyton Library from 10am to 3pm
• November 27: Tsakani Library from 10am to 3pm

The auditions will be structured in the form of one performance at a time with a maximum seven people per group.

The poetry categories and adjudication will be based on narrative poem, lyrical poem and dramatic poem and no one under the age of 16 will be allowed to participate.

Due to Covid-19, the event on December 4 will be streamed live and guests will be allowed per invitation with all Covid-19 protocols adhered to.
