Local beauty in line for Miss Teen of South Africa title
The confident youngster has set her eye on the prize and hopes to be a symbol of success for many young girls if she takes the title.
A local resident, Maleakoa Lemekoane (17), is one of 26 finalists in the running to become the next Miss Teen of South Africa.
“The focus of this national pageant is to build “girl-bosses”, giving a platform to independent, strong, dynamic and fearless ladies to stand for what they believe in and strive to be role models,” Lemekoane said.
“I have entered Miss Teen of South Africa because I wanted an opportunity to learn new skills and change the narrative about our current generation while representing my community and schools that built the foundation of who I am today.”
Although she has been doing modelling for three years, it is her first time entering a beauty pageant.
The confident youngster has set her eye on the prize and hopes to be a symbol of success for many young girls if she takes the title.
“I will use this platform to work on social issues young ladies face on a daily basis, from violence against women and children to gender inequalities that still exists in our society,” she said.

The former Curro Helderwyk learner boasts many talents and is a fine artist, poet as well as an aspiring actress.
“I have a deep passion and love for any form of the arts. For the heart without art is just he,” she said.
Maleakoa is currently finishing her matric at the Alpha and Omega Cambridge Institution.

Without a doubt, the local beauty’s role model is the current Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi.
“One reason being that she shares a birthday month with my icon, my mother.
“She also taught me the important lesson of being true to yourself, no matter what everybody else is doing around you.
“That allows you to exude happiness and radiate confidence and to stand out amongst the rest and never give up despite all odds,” she added.
The public can vote for Maleakoa by sending an SMS with her name and surname (Maleakoa Lemekoane) to 35959.
