Dalpark woman shot in house robbery

The security manager came to the family's aid and broke a window in the dining room to gain entry to the house.

A 52-year-old woman was shot during a robbery at her Dalpark Extension One home during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to information received from Brakpan police, two men gained access to the Helmstok Street home at around 2.30am by forcing open a window in the lounge.

Awakened by a noise inside the house, the woman’s husband (51) got up to investigate.

The couple’s 21-year-old daughter was also in the house.

As the husband was unlocking the safety door in the passage, he saw a man armed with a gun.

He ran back to the bedroom and was followed by the intruders.

As he locked the bedroom door, the gunman fired a shot, hitting the woman in her thigh.

At least three shots were fired.

In an attempt to seek help for his family, the husband jumped through the bedroom window.

He then phoned the area’s security manager who lives nearby.

The security manager came to the family’s aid and broke a window in the dining room to gain entry to the house.

The robbers had, however, already fled the scene, having taken a laptop, a set of house keys and a TV.

An ambulance was called to the house and the family was transported to the Netcare Union Hospital in Alberton.

The woman was treated for the gunshot wound, while her husband sustained a cut to his hand.

Their daughter was treated for shock.

The woman is reportedly in a stable condition.

A case of house robbery is under investigation.
