A woman was assaulted and robbed on Monday after boarding a taxi in Leachville.
According to information received from Brakpan police, the victim boarded a white Toyota Quantum with four male occupants along New Kleinfontein Road at 1pm.
Bound for Brakpan, they had driven off when the man sitting in the front passenger seat leapt to where the victim was sitting and attacked her.
She was strangled and robbed of her R10 taxi fare, her cellphone valued at R200 and two wristwatches. The victim was forced out of the taxi along Brodigan Street in Dalview and sought help at a nearby complex.
Police are investigating a case of common robbery, and commuters are advised to take note of the following safety tips:
• If possible, travel with other people you know.
• Avoid being the last person in the taxi, particularly at night.
• Know where you’re going.
• Avoid carrying expensive valuables.
• If you do fall victim to criminals in a taxi, stay alert.

This will enable you to identify the perpetrators and assist the police.
Try and memorise the taxi’s registration number or identifying marks, such as dents or stickers.
Victims may not always get a good look at the perpetrators – and are often instructed not to look at them – but try and remember other features, such as clothing or accents.
