Weekend crime round-up

Four men travelling in a silver Toyota Corolla robbed a woman of a large sum of cash after following her home from the bank.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Two business robberies occurred.

The first took place at a company along Denne Road in Denneoord at about 2am when a gang of men threatened a security guard at gunpoint.

The guard was tied up and the robbers fled with computers and printers.

They gained access to the premises by cutting the electric fence.

The second robbery took place around 4.15am at a business in Jan Buis Street, Van Eck Park.

Two men armed with guns confronted a security guard in the guardroom and tied his hands with a cable charger.

They took the guard’s cellphone and R60 cash.

* Four men travelling in a silver Toyota Corolla robbed a woman of a large sum of cash after following her home from the bank.

The woman had withdrawn the money at a bank at the Mall@Carnival and arrived at her Farquharson Road, Rand Collieries home, just before 3pm.

She opened the gate using a remote and as she was about to drive into the yard, she noticed a vehicle stop behind her.

After driving in, she saw a man standing in front of the gate to prevent it from closing.

She drove to the back of the property and the vehicle followed.

A gunman appeared at her driver’s side window and another man forced the car door open.

He demanded her wedding ring, cellphone and handbag, which contained the cash.

The pair then climbed into the Corolla, which was parked behind the victim’s car, and fled the scene.

A case of armed robbery is under investigation.

* A laptop was stolen from a vehicle parked at an address along Colliery Road in Rand Collieries.

• Saturday – A motorbike was stolen from a residence in Duncan Street, Brenthurst.

* A business in Van Dyk Road, Rand Collieries, was broken into and burgled of goods valued at over R100 000.

Among the stolen items was a racing bicycle, a motorbike helmet and expensive electronic equipment.

• Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of going to print.
