Robbers target car dealership

Eight vehicles stolen after men masquerade as buyers.

Robbers posing as car buyers held up the staff and a customer at a car dealership in Maryvlei last Wednesday.
Eight vehicles and other goods with a combined value of over R1-million were stolen.

According to information received from Brakpan police, two men entered the premises on Lemmer Road at 16:45 and told a salesman they wanted to buy one of the cars.

The men told the salesman they wanted to pay a deposit and asked for the dealership’s banking details.
One of them then accompanied the salesman into an office, while the other, who was carrying a bag, sat on a couch outside the office door.

While the salesman was providing the information required, the other man removed a firearm from the bag, walked into the office, threatened the salesman and instructed him to lie down.

Other staff members and a customer were rounded up and shut inside a bathroom. After hearing no activity for some time, the group emerged from the bathroom and found several vehicles missing from the parking bays.

The cars stolen were an Audi S3, an Audi A4, a Volkswagen Golf GTI, a BMW 325i, a Mini Countryman Cooper, a Mercedes-Benz E63, a Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Fiesta.

A computer tower, monitor, CCTV camera, three cellphones, a wallet and a wristwatch were also stolen. The vehicles were fitted with tracking devices and four had been recovered the following day. A case of business robbery has been opened and police are on the hunt for the men and their accomplices.
