Brakpan SAPS station commander Brig Fredl Jonck thanked the members for their swift response.
The phrase as thick as thieves cannot be applied to a man found in possession of a hijacked vehicle who quickly gave up his accomplice to the police.
The recovery of the stolen car and arrest of the man not only resulted in the arrest of his partner in crime but also the discovery of an air gun, drugs and a stolen cellphone.
The first man was nabbed along Kingsway Avenue on Friday after local crime-prevention members received a tip-off at around 10:30 about a hijacked car in the area.
“Members responded swiftly and arrested a man driving a silver Tata sedan with no registration numbers,” said Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS.
She told the Herald investigations revealed the Tata, which is an e-hailing services vehicle, was recently hijacked in Boksburg.
The driver of the Tata was threatened at gunpoint and ordered out of the vehicle.
After being detained at the Brakpan Police Station, the arrested man was booked out and directed SAPS to an address along Wenden Avenue, where he pointed out his accomplice.

The second man was searched and a small ziplock bag containing crystal meth and a pipe were found in his possession.
A cellphone belonging to the Tata driver, which was taken during the hijacking, was also found, as well as an air gun that was allegedly used to threaten the driver.
These items landed the second man in cuffs and both face an array of charges. Brakpan SAPS station commander Brig Fredl Jonck thanked the members for their swift response.
