Brakpan firefighter takes part in KZN rescue and recovery mission
Rescuers from the City of Ekurhuleni headed to KwaZulu-Natal to assist following the recent deadly floods.
Four personnel from the urban search team from Ekurhuleni DEMS put their skills into practice with other rescue team members from across the country to help in the disaster-stricken province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The region was recently hit by devastating floods, causing destruction and loss of life. Sithembiso Khoza, a firefighter at the Brakpan Fire Station, is among them.
His Ekurhuleni colleagues are Wadeville Fire Station manager Bafana Masilela, Palm Ridge Fire Station shift manager Pusetso Mosia and Commercia Fire Station firefighter Ngwasheng Choene.

They are some of the contingency of rescuers within the City trained in the preparation for future global catastrophes, either natural or man-made.
They are trained in swift water, confined space, wilderness, structural, trench and high-angle rope rescues. The City is proud of its officials for making a significant contribution to KZN.
The four rescuers formed part of the team sent down to KZN by the provincial government of Gauteng.

City of Ekurhuleni emergency services is at the forefront when it comes to urban search and rescue specialisation.
The course modules are acquired in the DEMS training academy based at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station in Boksburg.
Previously, the City`s rescuers participated in various local and international rescue missions involving earthquakes, tsunami and floods.
