Brakpan Netball Club is aiming to create a place where families enjoy the sport together.
This is the mission of the club’s new committee, voted in recently.
The committee is led by chairperson Angelique van der Merwe and her deputy Duduzile Khubeka. Alida Fleming is the marketing manager while Karabo Moletsane is the secretary.
“At this stage, we are trying to make our teams stronger and more family-orientated at the club,” said van der Merwe.
“We want our players and their families comfortable at the club.”
Brakpan is looking to build strong teams as they already have several players who have represented Ekurhuleni in the past.
“We are looking to have very positive outcomes,” said the new chairperson.
Khubeka echoed van der Merwe’s words.
“We are looking to have more people join the club. At this stage we don’t have a mixed team and would like to attract male players to join the club,” said the new deputy chairperson.

Brakpan has several women’s teams from U16 level to seniors. They do want to add male players so that they can compete in the mixed leagues as well.
While this local club is one of the younger netball institutions ain the region, they recently hosted a successful Winter Bash Tournament that will take place annually.
“Not only do we host this big competition but we also support the tournaments that are hosted by other clubs,” said van der Merwe.

“For example, we will be playing in the Harties event on June 16 and have an indoor event on June 25 as well.”
While the youngest age group at the club at the moment is U16 the new committee would like to add more junior teams.
