Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from May 20 to 22.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – Two delivery drivers were robbed at gunpoint in separate incidents. The first took place at 08:40 at an address along Essex Street in Dalview. This driver was robbed by two occupants of a silver Nissan Almera.

He was assaulted and forced to lie in the delivery vehicle while the pair helped themselves to the parcels in the boot. Cellphones valued at R85 000 were stolen.

The second robbery took place at 10:30 in Leachville after the driver had made a delivery at an address along Gifboom Avenue.

He was still on the property when he was accosted by a man armed with a gun. He was taken to the courier vehicle where another two robbers were waiting.

The driver and his assistant were forced to load parcels from the vehicle into the robbers’ white Toyota Avanza. The value of the stolen parcels is R47 000. Cases of armed robbery were opened.

• The driver of a white Hyundai H100 was hijacked by the occupants of a brown Volkswagen Polo along Heidelberg Road (R23).

The incident took place at about 10:30 when the Polo driver attempted to force the victim’s vehicle off the road.

The victim then turned down a secluded road, with the Polo following. The Polo driver overtook him and braked in front of him, causing him to stop.

Five men got of the Polo and approached the victim. One man pointed a gun at the victim through the open driver’s side window and another got into the vehicle and choked the victim.

Two other men tied the victim’s hands together with shoelaces and threatened to stab him. His face was covered and he was dragged out of the Hyundai into another vehicle.

The hijackers drove around with the victim for about two hours before he was released. He was also robbed of his cellphone and R300 in cash.

Saturday – A business in Rangeview Road, Dalpark, was broken into. The intruder/s entered the premises through the ceiling and damaged the camera system. A cash box containing a large sum of money was stolen.

Sunday – At the time of publication, no incidents of theft, robbery, burglary, hijacking or any other serious crime had been reported.
