A 31-year-old man was arrested on July 23 in connection with the murder of his father.
According to Brakpan police, the man had been on the run since July 7 when his father, a 62-year-old Withok Estates resident, was fatally stabbed.
It is believed the deceased recently retired.
“He and his son did not see eye to eye with regards to the beneficiary shares,” said Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad.
“A fight ensued between the two. The father was stabbed multiple times with a sharp object. The son then ran off and has been on the run for the past two weeks.”
On Saturday, police officers and community stakeholders managed to trace and arrest him. Van Staad told the Herald the man appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he was denied bail.
Brakpan police station commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck applauded the community stakeholders and members who worked tirelessly to put the suspect behind bars.
