Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from July 22 to 24.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – An attempt was made to break into a residence along Skamel Road in Dalpark. The culprits were disturbed by the home’s occupants and nothing was stolen.

A burglar gate and a window were tampered with in an effort to gain entry.

• Two vehicles were stolen. A white Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Mall@Carnival and a silver Opel Zafira was stolen from Voortrekker Road.

• A male taxi commuter was robbed of his cellphone and cash after boarding a white Toyota Quantum with two male occupants along Voortrekker Road at around 13:30.

Once they had driven off, one of the males threatened the victim with a gun and demanded money. The victim gave the gunman R400 and his cellphone.

They drove to an open field near the Mkhancwa Village informal settlement, near Ergo, and the pair searched the victim, robbing him of more cash. They took R1 200 in total and left him in the field.

• A generator, a welding machine and other tools were stolen during a break-in at a workshop along Koot Street in Withok Estates.

Saturday – A shopkeeper at a Voortrekker Road store was robbed at gunpoint by two men at around 09:00.
The pair fled with a cellphone, R2 000 from the till and cigarettes valued at R3 000.

• A man walking along Millicent Street in Brenthurst was robbed by a gang of four men at 16:30. The robbers, three of whom were armed with knives, searched the victim and took his cellphone and R300 in cash.

They also stole his tekkies and tuckshop stock valued at R350.

• A home in Porter Avenue was burgled of TVs, jewellery, a laptop and other household items.

• Cash, cigarettes and other goods were stolen during a robbery at a Station Road shop. The owner was locking up at about 22.20 when three men threatened him with a gun.

They took R6 800 from the till, cigarettes valued at R2 000, cellphones to the value of R5 000 and a 5lt bottle of cooking oil. They also stole the owner’s cellphone.

• A TV was stolen during a break-in at a home in Devon Street, Dalview.

Sunday – A business in Van der Walt Road, Dalview, was robbed of cash. A staff member was waiting for his colleagues to arrive when at around 05:45 he noticed a white Ford Bantam bakkie parked across from the building.

A man arrived at the premises and pointed a gun at the staff member, demanding to be let inside.
The robber took R10 000 from the safe and fled.
