Campaign focuses on the youth

Police and other role players informed learners at Brakpan High School about issues some teens struggle with.

An awareness campaign covering a range of issues affecting young people was held at Brakpan High School on Friday.

The day was made possible by Brakpan SAPS, SANCA (South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence), the City of Ekurhuleni (Women’s Directorate), Ekurhuleni social workers, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Health, the Witpoort Treatment Centre and the African Youth Development Fund.

The event was also attended by members of the Brakpan Youth Crime Prevention Desk and community patrollers.

Various speakers addressed the learners on topics such as teenage pregnancy, mental health and drug and substance abuse.

The programme also included learners addressing their peers and fun activities such as dancing.
