Ekurhuleni woman gets Outstanding Creative Award from Gauteng Legislature

"My passion is to use my knowledge, influence, and experiences to help each person I come into contact with."

Thembi Monametsi received the outstanding creative award from the Gauteng Legislature on August 31.

The Vita Basidi Award honours and recognises women who have made a good impact on their communities without receiving anything for their efforts.

The award-winning author of self-help books, Mrs Africa Global United 2020, Mrs Africa first princess 2020, media personality, inspirational speaker and a founder of Rise up Woman and Thembi Tea Talk, was excited to receive the award.

“I felt honoured and it was satisfying to know that my influence in the neighbourhood was acknowledged.

“I was tempted to let my experience as a woman facing insecurities, teen pregnancy stigma, low self-esteem, toxic relationships, and depression define the rest of my life.

“I used to wear my insecurities on my sleeve and thought everyone was also judging me. The realisation that I had only two options, to settle or to rise up, didn’t dawn on me until I was at my lowest.

“At that point, I dared to use the lessons learned from my past wounds to fuel my future hope.

“It required commitment, discipline, resources, and spiritual development for me to change from the timid and terrified little girl I once was into the formidable leader, author, counsellor, and pastor I am today.

“My passion is to use my knowledge, influence, and experiences to help each person I come into contact with becoming the best version of themselves.”

She was motivated by her love and enthusiasm for empowering women and the advancement of women.

“A young person who feels empowered is aware of their abilities, self-determination, and value. They are at ease experimenting with new things.

“They are willing to take chances and understand that failing is a step in the right direction, not a reason to give up. They don’t take other people’s viewpoints as their compass in life.”

Monametsi appreciates the accolades she has been getting.

“What I’ve discovered in life is that God will send you the appropriate individuals to support you during each stage of life.

“God has placed a large number of individuals in my life to aid in my current situation.

“I’d like to use this chance to express my gratitude to everyone who allowed God to use them to get me to where I am.

“I am aware that there were moments when it was difficult, but with your love, prayers, support, and patience, I would not be who I am today,” said Monametsi.
