Fun day out for children from informal settlements

Various stakeholders got together to make a difference and spread some joy.

Children from the Mgongo (Old Location) and Plastic City informal settlements were treated to a day of fun on Saturday.

Representatives from the Brakpan SAPS, Brakpan family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit (FCS), Friends of Leah, Tsakani Mnisi, Benoni Spar and Brakpan CPF spent the day with the children at Bosman Stadium.

The children were treated to breakfast and lunch and educated on issues such as respect, safety, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and crime in general.

They enjoyed jumping castles, face painting and participating in activities such as soccer and traditional dancing.

Medals were awarded to the winning teams and the children received shoes and clothes.

Thanks to the Brakpan Taxi Association that transported the children to and from the stadium at no cost and the management of the stadium for giving back to the community by accommodating the children.
