Seamster has big hopes

Sidewalk seamster works hard to reach his dreams.

Tinashe Sifanas (35) has been mending clothes, shoes and belts with an old manual sewing machine for the past six months.

He is stationed across the Sherwood Shopping Centre under a colourful old beach umbrella with his shoe-making tools, machine and thread and belt buckles.

People drop off items to be repaired while they do their shopping. Sifanas uses a bicycle to get to and from his spot on the pavement.

Before he started his sewing stall, Sifanas did painting, patching and plastering. He previously worked at a cotton company.

Sifanas hopes to get an industrial machine and more tools to grow his little pavement seamster business. He also hopes to get a store from where he can continue mending clothes and accessories.

He appreciates donations of thread, buttons, shoe glue and anything that could help him with his work.

Sifanas lost his phone recently but has a WhatsApp number he can access.

Anyone who wishes to help with donations, or who wants to support his business may contact him at 074 807 5490.
