Community crime-fighter awarded

Recognised for his service and support to the SAPS and the community.

Security consultant Charl Bronkhorst (46) was commended by the Brakpan SAPS for assisting in crime prevention through action and information.

Bronkhorst, from the local security provider Secure Tech, is always available and has helped with the arrest of three murder suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles.

He helped start the Brakpan Reaction WhatsApp group and readily assists people in need.

Bronkhorst has worked as a consultant for Secure Tech for six years. He also has his own business as a security consultant.

He chose to work for Secure Tech with his wife Anesta (46) because they wanted to be involved in something where they could make a difference.

“It’s always been a passion of mine to help people. My dad was a fire station chief, so you could say it runs in my blood,” he said.

Brakpan Police Station Commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck awarded Bronkhorst a certificate of thanks at a meeting at the station on January 25.

“He’s doing a lot for Brakpan. We want to acknowledge his good work, not just as police, but as a community,” said Jonck.

Bronkhorst is always available after arrests for further information. Members of the SAPS congratulated him on the certificate and applauded his work in partnership with the station.

Bronkhorst said that if he could choose, he would pursue this job again because he likes making a difference.

When faced with dangerous situations, he said, “It is important to remain calm. You have to be able to think on your feet. From there the adrenaline takes over, and experience and training kick in.”

He also ensures his safety by taking the necessary steps, including ensuring that his weapon is secure and wearing a bulletproof vest.

Although Bronkhorst consults for Secure Tech in Brakpan, he lives in Springs. He and Anesta have two children, Chané (18) and Divan (16).

Jonck thanked the community and security personnel for their continued efforts to fight crime in Brakpan.
