Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from March 3 to 5.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A smash-and-grab was reported at the Heidelberg Road and New Kleinfontein Road intersection, near Leachville. The incident took place at around 19:30.

A lone thief smashed the window of a stationary vehicle with two female occupants and grabbed a cellphone valued at R10 000 from the passenger’s hand.

• A flatbed trailer was stolen from an address along Derby Avenue.

• A gas bottle, shoes, personal documents and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a home in the

Mgongo informal settlement (Location Road) in Brakpan North.

Saturday – A home along Kitzinger Avenue was burgled of a TV, a WiFi router and other household items.

• A man was shot at following an altercation at a tavern in the Mgongo informal settlement in Brakpan North at around midnight.

The bullet missed its target and the man was unharmed. A case of attempted murder is under investigation.

• A man walking home was attacked by three robbers along Location Road at around 19:00

The victim was assaulted with a wooden plank and then tied to a tree. He was robbed of R40, his cellphone and bank card.

Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.
