SAPS operation yields success

Friday evening saw law enforcement hit the streets for a high density operation.

Brakpan SAPS and different stakeholders conducted a high-density operation in the town on Friday evening with a focus on drugs, illegal immigrants, illegal liquor outlets and trade compliance.

The operation, which took place from 18:00 to midnight, resulted in the arrest of 11 illegal immigrants and four for possession of drugs.

It also saw 177 vehicles and 211 people searched. In addition, 21 traffic fines were issued to the value of R12 900.
Eight liquor outlets were visited and three illegal liquor outlets were closed.

Nine businesses were also checked for compliance.

The operation was not all smooth sailing, however, and officers and other officials were pelted with stones by residents of the Plastic City informal settlement during a raid on illegal shebeens in the area.

According to Brakpan SAPS communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi, no one was injured but some vehicles and a police van were damaged.

Load-shedding also proved to be a challenge.

Local police were assisted by the EMPD, Department of Home Affairs Immigration Office, CPF, AfriForum, Secure Tech Security and CP Security.

Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck expressed his gratitude to all who assisted.
