Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from April 14 to 16.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – Batteries were stolen from a truck parked along Airport Drive in Dalpark.

• A vacant property in Northdene Avenue was burgled of a stepladder.

• A woman was robbed of her iPhone at gunpoint at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Prince George Avenue. The victim was approached by a lone gunman after parking her car in the CBD just after 14:00.

The man threatened her and forced her back into her vehicle. He also got into the car and instructed her to drive.

After taking her phone, the man told her to stop near a fast food eatery in town and he got out of the car. The victim immediately drove to the Brakpan SAPS to report the incident.

• A police officer from Daveyton SAPS was robbed of her vehicle by two hijackers along Elsburg Road, near Helderwyk Estates, at around 17:15.

The victim was stationary at the traffic lights when her vehicle, a white Volkswagen Polo, was bumped by a silver Volkswagen Polo.

The officer got our of her car to assess the damage and was threatened by two men, one of whom was armed with a gun.

They forced her into her vehicle, where they searched and robbed her of her cellphone. They then drove off with her. The hijackers dropped the victim off in Dunswart, Boksburg.

Saturday – A woman was robbed of her handbag in the parking lot of Mall@Carnival at around 13:00.

The victim parked her vehicle when a man opened the passenger door and grabbed the bag from the seat. The bag’s contents included an iPhone and some cash.

Sunday – A Kitzinger Avenue business was burgled of perfume, sports bags, jackets, T-shirts and other valuables.

• Gas bottles, inverters, welding cables and other goods were stolen during a break-in at a business along Springs Road in Maryvlei.
