Drug search operation results in five arrests

Drugs and suspected stolen goods found.

On Sunday at about 21:30, members of the EMPD Eastern Region Task Team arrested four foreign nationals and a South African man for possession and possible dealing in multiple illegal substances and possession of suspected stolen goods.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa, task team members in conjunction with crew from the television programme Moja Love, conducted a drug search operation in the Brakpan area.

“Upon receiving information from a reliable source, the law enforcers proceeded to High Street where they cornered four male Nigerian national suspects with 88 small and 56 big ziplock bags of CAT, two small scales, six laptops, and two brown taped balls of dagga with an estimated value of R4 600 and R456 in cash,” she said.

“On the same premises, a 26-year-old South African male, was found with a suspected stolen plasma TV.”

The foreign nationals are aged between 29 and 33. All five were immediately arrested and marched to the Brakpan Police Station.

Thepa added the men will appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon.
