Brakpan police conduct awareness campaign on new banknotes and coins

Business owners and employees educated.

With the recent introduction of new banknotes and coins, Brakpan SAPS conducted an awareness campaign in the Brakpan CBD last Wednesday to educate businesses about the new currency.

According to Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager Constable Audrey Buthelezi, the aim of the campaign is to prevent fraud.

“It was to show business people what the money looks like, the texture, and for them to be able to distinguish between the old and upgraded notes and coins, and again to identify fake banknotes,” she said.

Buthelezi believes that awareness is integral to prevent criminal activities.

“It is significant for the public at large to be enlightened about the upgraded notes and coins so that they can detect fabricated ones and report such to the police,” she said.

“The business proprietors and their employees welcomed the knowledge and thanked the SAPS.”

The Brakpan SAPS liquor and second-hand goods team assisted during the campaign.
