Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from September 1 to 3.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A man was robbed of his iPhone while walking along Lotus Avenue in Kenleaf at 12:30. The victim was approached by a man and a woman who offered to pay him if he helped them pack clothing

The victim agreed and followed them. When they reached the corner of Lotus and Packard avenues, the man pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his phone.

He was forced to unlock the device and tell the pair his banking app pin.

The robbers then told the victim to run without looking back. The victim later discovered a substantial amount of money had been transferred from his bank account.

• A red Opel Kadett was stolen from the corner of Prince George Avenue and Voortrekker Road.

• A TV, a laptop and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a home along Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst.

• Two children were robbed of their bicycles at the corner of Ellis and Craven streets in Brakpan North at about 16:00.

The boys were riding their bikes when they were stopped by two men who threatened them with a knife and demanded the bicycles.

• A home along Carmylie Avenue in Dalview was broken into and TVS, a gaming console, ear phones, an inverter and tools were stolen.

• A boombox was stolen from a home in Duncan Street, Brenthurst.

Saturday – A storage room at a home in Station Road was burgled of gas bottles, bicycles, gardening equipment and other goods.

• A red Mazda Rustler was stolen from Kingsway Avenue.

• A TV, a portable radio and other household goods were stolen during a break-in at a home along Hofmeyr Street in Brenthurst.

• Batteries were stolen from a truck parked at an address along Kingsway Avenue.

Sunday – Two security guards were robbed of their personal belongings by two intruders at a business along Springs Road in Maryvlei.

The robbers, both of whom were armed with guns, gained access to the premises at around 02:00 and threatened the guards.

They took a cellphone, bank cards and cash from the victims. The robbers also stole a car battery.

• A car parked at Carnival City was broken into and the vehicle’s sound system was stolen.
